From recent discussions on the Patent Practice listserv, it seems that it is impossible just now to place a telephone call to anyone at the USPTO.
I tried to call an Examiner from each of several types of phones (mobile, landline, VOIP) and received a variety of error messages and instances of the call ringing and ringing and getting disconnected.
I then tried calling the Examiner’s SPE. Same results.
I then tried calling the Director of the Technology Center (the supervisor of the SPE). Same results.
I then tried calling the Acting Director of the USPTO, Coke Morgan Stewart. Same results.
Other members of the patent practitioner community report similar problems trying to place telephone calls to the USPTO.
