John L. Welch of TTABlog fame has coined three initialisms that have enriched the lives of all trademark practitioners.
- WYHA? is John’s way, after writing about an appeal that did not succeed, of asking the reader the simple question “would you have appealed?” Here is an example of a WYHA? The earliest known use of the initialism is on September 9, 2008.
- WYHO? is John’s way, after writing about an opposition that did not succeed, of asking the reader the simple question “would you have opposed?” Here is an example of a WYHO? The earliest known use of the initialism is on April 29, 2009.
- WYHP? is John’s way, after writing about a petition to cancel that did not succeed, of asking the reader the simple question “would you have petitioned?” The earliest known use of the initialism is on September 7, 2010.
I note, by the way, that John’s innovations are properly termed “initialisms” and not “acronyms“.
