Update: Status of ID5 Offices in DAS

Let’s remind ourselves how the five biggest Offices for industrial design protection (called “ID5”) are coming along in terms of participation in the DAS system.  It is recalled that the DAS system permits the exchange and retrieval of electronic certified copies of priority documents.  So which Offices are trendy, modern, and up-to-date?  Which of the ID5 Offices have not yet joined DAS for designs?

Here is the status as of now (February 2019):

Office Depositing Office Accessing Office
China yes yes
EUIPO not yet not yet
Japan not yet not yet
South Korea yes yes
US yes yes

China, South Korea, and USPTO are trendy, modern, and up-to-date with respect to designs in the DAS system.

The European Union Intellectual Property Office and the Japanese Patent Office are not yet participants in the DAS system for designs.  It is, of course, hoped that EUIPO and JPO will soon join DAS for designs.

Other Offices that are trendy, modern, and up-to-date with respect to DAS and designs are Chile, India, and Spain.
