PCT training in San Francisco on Wednesday, May 13
Are you attending the AIPLA Spring 2026 meeting at the San Francisco Fairmont hotel? If so, I invite you to attend some PCT training on Wednesday, May 13 from 4PM to 6PM in the French Room. Your presenters are Hanna Kang from WIPO and yours truly. We will talk about two topics:
-
- choosing a Receiving Office, and
- choosing an International Searching Authority.
The training is sponsored by the PCT Issues Committee.
Here are the presentation slides for “choosing an ISA”.
Good news for those who use ISA/EP and IPEA/EP
What we see today is some new user-friendliness on the part of the European Patent Office. EPO is now making it even easier than before for PCT applicants to receive communications electronically from ISA/EP and IPEA/EP. Continue reading “Good news for those who use ISA/EP and IPEA/EP”
Should the listserv member click on the link? Is it spearphishing?
Oppedahl Patent Law Firm LLC (“OPLF”) sponsors many listservs (email discussion groups for intellectual property professionals, here is a list of them), some with over a thousand members. In recent days, hundreds of members of the listservs have started to receive email messages that prompted questions, such as:
I received an email, and I need to know whether it is a phishing hack. If it’s legitimate, I will respond accordingly.
Another listserv member responded:
Got same thing yesterday. Is real. The question is why.
What do these emails mean? Why are the listserv members receiving the emails? How should listserv members respond? In this blog posting, I try to answer these questions. Continue reading “Should the listserv member click on the link? Is it spearphishing?”
Fifteen free-of-charge lectures about the Patent Cooperation Treaty

EBC foot-drags handling of Form 2248 for 3 months
It is now 15 weeks ago that I followed instructions from the EBC and used fax to send in a Form 2248 in two of my PCT cases. (See blog article.) Yes, more than three months have now passed during which EBC continues to fail to act upon either of the Forms 2248 that I sent to them.
Yet another reason to attend the PCT seminar in Detroit next week
Hello PCT enthusiasts!
There was already a good reason to make plans to attend the PCT seminar that will take place next week in Detroit — namely the opportunity to hear from very nice WIPO people (and from me) about the PCT and ePCT. (For more information or to register click here.)
Now there is an additional good reason to make plans to attend. There will be a networking reception afterwards! It is sponsored by the Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association.

What could be more fun than a full day of PCT training? The answer, of course, is a full day of PCT training followed by a reception. Continue reading “And a reception after the Dallas PCT seminar”
