USPTO corrects its new web site

Two days ago I blogged (see blog article) about a hallucination on the USPTO’s new web site, namely the existence of a “provisional patent”.    The web site said:

File a provisional patent

Now the USPTO has corrected the web site.  Now the bullet point is:

File a provisional patent application

  1. I think the use of “hallucination” in 2026 implies an AI-based error. I don’t see enough proof that AI is to blame here. Seems like a simple human addition. Was it a hallucination when you reported a similar issue at the USPTO in 2017? I think word choice matters here and I think “hallucination” is a bit misleading—as seen by the comments on Julie Burke’s post. https://blog.oppedahl.com/uspto-removes-suggestion-provisional-patent-web-site/
