Would this webinar be of interest?

I am thinking of setting up a free-of-charge webinar that would compare and contrast the internal structure of the old-style (ST25) and soon-to-be style (ST26) sequence listings.  Would such a webinar be of interest to you?

I am thinking of setting up a free-of-charge webinar that would provide a guided tour of the interior of a simple ST25 sequence listing — just a few nucleotides.  The idea is that we would view the ST25 sequence listing using Notepad.  I have in mind that with this sequence listing laid open for view on the screen, I would point out the basic structure of this old-style sequence listing.  Then a biotech practitioner would discuss a few biotech aspects of this old-style sequence listing.  If we are very lucky, maybe a WIPO person would also be one of the presenters, and would then offer comments on the ST25 listing from the WIPO point of view.

Then we would turn to the corresponding sequence listing presented in the new format, which as you probably know is fetchingly named ST26 (WIPO web site).  This sequence listing would contain the same few nucleotides, but in the new XML format.  Again we would open the sequence listing on the screen using Notepad.  I would point out the basic XML structure of this new-style sequence listing, including new fields that were not present in the ST25 sequence listing.  Our biotech colleague would discuss some biotech aspects of the similarities and differences in this new-style sequence listing.   Again if we are so fortunate as to have a WIPO person on the dais, the WIPO person would conclude with comments about the two formats.

The goals for this webinar would be very narrow — looking around inside the two kinds of sequence listing to understand the basic formats.  This webinar would not, for example, provide training in the use of the WIPO Sequence tool for creating ST26 sequence listings.  (WIPO has presented many webinars introducing the WIPO Sequence tool and you can see recordings of the webinars here.)

The question is whether such a webinar would be of interest?  Maybe the situation is that this would be extremely boring and uninteresting because everybody who does sequence listing work is already very familiar with everything that goes on inside an ST25 sequence listing and everything that goes on inside a corresponding ST26 sequence listing.

In fact, maybe everybody who does sequence listing work is completely confident that when “big bang” day arrives on July 1, 2022, they will be completely prepared and ready.  And maybe there is not really any need for any more webinars or discussions or training.

But anyway, my question is, would such a webinar be of interest to you?  If you think you would probably like to attend such a free-of-charge webinar, please click here to leave your contact information, so that OPLF can let you know when the webinar does get scheduled.

Oh and if you do sequence listing work, I do suggest you join the ST26 listserv, which is an email discussion group for people who are getting ready for the “big bang” that will happen on July 1, 2022.

  1. Yes but it is also of interest to me if you talked about the PCT options for entering multiple national phases directly from a PCT filing near the 30th month. For example, can you just identify the countries, pay the fees and it gets efiled from the PCT directly to the fee paid countries?
