Utility art units with the smallest backlogs

In my previous post about published USPTO statistics for utility art units, I promised another blog post listing the utility art units with the smallest backlogs.  Here they are:

art unit backlog technology area
3635 6 Static Structures
2133 7 Computer memory
2412 7 Multiplex Communication
2471 7 Multiplex Communications
2628 7 Computer Graphics
2672 7 Facsimile; Printer; Color; Halftone; Scanner
2673 7 Facsimile; Printer; Color; Halftone; Scanner
2674 7 Facsimile; Printer; Color; Halftone; Scanner
2676 7 Facsimile; Printer; Color; Halftone; Scanner
2677 7 Facsimile; Printer; Color; Halftone; Scanner
2689 7 Dynamic Storage Systems: Signal Processing & Control Processing in Disk Drives
2692 7 Selective Visual Display Systems
2864 7 Measuring & Testing
2893 7 Semiconductors/Manufacturing
2897 7 Semiconductors/Manufacturing
3648 7 Aeronautics, Agriculture, Fishing, Trapping, Vermin Destroying, Plant and Animal Husbandry, Weaponry, Nuclear Systems, and License and Review

A few oddities present themselves if you compare this list with the list in my previous posting (art units with biggest backlogs).

  • There, two “measuring and testing” art units (2857 and 2863) were tied at 60 months.  Here is a “measuring and testing” art unit (2864) with a mere seven months of backlog.
  • There a “multiplex communication” art unit (2464) was at 60 months.  Here are two “multiplex communication” art units (2412, 2471) with just seven months.

I can’t really discern from USPTO’s management roster what kind of work goes on in art unit 3648.  So I was only able to list the general section heading for a group of art units containing 3648 and others.  Kind of a ragtag group of technology areas if you ask me.  If someone knows what 3648 actually does, I’d be grateful if you could post a comment about it.
